Old Town San Diego

OLD TOWN is the historic heart of San Diego. Created in 1769, Old Town San Diego was California's first settlement with only a mission and a fort.

Wander through lush gardens or browse at one of the many specialty shops for treasures from around the world. Indulge in authentic Mexican food at one of the many restaurants or dance to the strolling mariachis. Pause to reflect at the fountains at Fiesta de Reyes and in the Bazaar del Mundo and plan a day or two to visit the dozens of historic sites. Take a tour of a haunted building and spend a day at one of the many museums. Year round, Old Town is the place for food, folklore, and fun. Visit Old Town, celebrate San Diego's heritage, and bask in early California ambiance.

Old Town San Diego State Historic Park is in the center of Old Town. Here you can experience life from the early Mexican-American period of 1821-1872 through rich living history programs. Watch forms come to life at the blacksmith and woodworker shops, and read a newspaper from the 19th century.

Old Town San Diego, where Interstate 5 and Interstate 8 meet, is nestled in the heart of San Diego.  Old Town is just across the street from the San Diego Trolley Old Town Transit Center, across the freeway from the Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) and a short drive from most San Diego destinations.

Take the Old Town Avenue exit on Interstate 5.

USS Midway (CVB/CVA/CV-41) is an aircraft carrier, formerly of the United States Navy, the lead ship of her class. Commissioned 8 days after the end of World War II, Midway was the largest ship in the world until 1955, as well as the first U.S. aircraft carrier too big to transit the Panama Canal. She operated for 47 years, during which time she saw action in the Vietnam War and served as the Persian Gulf flagship in 1991's Operation Desert Storm. Decommissioned in 1992, she is now a museum ship at the USS Midway Museum, in San Diego, California, and is the only remaining inactive U.S. aircraft carrier that is not an Essex-class aircraft carrier.

La Jolla Beach, San Diego

Balboard Park.jpg

Shell Beach, La Jolla is a small beach in La Jolla, a community of San DiegoCalifornia, United States. The beach is accessed via a flight of concrete steps that start at the south end of Ellen Browning Scripps Park. This beach is located immediately north of Children's Pool Beach, south of Boomer Beach, and also south of La Jolla Cove.

During extreme low tides, the southern end of Shell Beach has an interesting tidepool-like area, with many marine creatures visible. Because of the presence of reef structures and rip currents that can be hazardous to scuba divers, the San Diego Council of Divers provides a "Rocks, Rips and Reefs" tour for the area.Visible to the south a short distance out from Shell Beach is Seal Rock, which often has a number of harbor seals resting on it. Historical Balboa Park

Balboard Park.jpg

Balboa Park is central to the story of San Diego. In 1868, civic leaders took the audacious step of setting aside 1,400 acres of a scrub-filled mesa, an area that now overlooks what is downtown San Diego. While San Diego was home to just 2,300 residents back then, its leaders had the vision and desire to create an iconic park that would serve its citizens and its visitors for years to come.
